23 August 2014: The Bobbit Worm

The "Bobbit worm" (Eunice aphroditois): An omnivorous polychaete (tube worm) that dwells on the ocean bottom. It will leap from its tube and grab its prey so quickly that the prey is sometimes sliced in half, even while it injects a lethal venom that starts the digestive process.

Oh, did I mention? It can grow to almost ten feet long.

Pleasant dreams!
